Air Conditioning Brands

Midea Air Conditioning in Coffs Harbour

The budget option in our quoting system. Independent supply, installation and servicing.

Midea is the budget option in our quoting system, and it's there for a reason: parts come through quickly and the advertised warranty is the longest of the three brands we quote.

Yes

Do you install Midea?

Yes. Midea is one of the three brands in our quoting system.

Those three are in there because we can get parts for them fastest, which matters more than most people expect. A cheaper unit that sits waiting three weeks for a board isn't cheaper.

The two brands we actively recommend are Daikin and Mitsubishi Electric, and that's where Clayton's 8 years of hands-on experience sits. Midea is the option when budget is the deciding factor.

Is Midea a good air conditioner?

It's a budget brand with a long advertised warranty, and whether that's the right trade depends on what you're buying it for.

Where it tends to make sense:

  • A rental or investment property where the sums are different
  • A spare room or a space that won't run every day
  • A tight budget where the alternative is no air conditioning at all

Where we'd point you at Daikin or Mitsubishi Electric instead:

  • A main living area that'll run hard through summer
  • A coastal property close to the surf, where everything works harder
  • A system you expect to keep for 15 years

None of that is a criticism of the brand. It's the same reasoning you'd apply to anything: match the spend to the job.

How long is the Midea warranty?

Midea advertise 10 years, subject to their own terms and conditions.

That's the longest of the three brands we quote. Daikin and Mitsubishi Electric are both 5 years, also subject to their own terms.

Two things worth knowing before that number does the deciding for you.

The warranty comes from the brand, not from us and not from the supplier, so nobody in the chain can extend it, shorten it, or promise something outside the manufacturer's terms.

And a longer advertised term doesn't automatically mean broader cover. The conditions matter as much as the number: what's covered, what's excluded, what's required of the installation and the servicing to keep it valid. Read Midea's terms rather than anyone's summary, including ours.

Pricing

What does a Midea install cost?

Installation starts at $968 per unit for a back to back install, with the unit itself on top. Same install pricing as any other brand, since the labour and materials don't change.

Back to back means indoor and outdoor either side of the same wall, short pipe run, no extra material.

What moves it:

  • Longer pipe runs, where the outdoor unit can't sit directly behind the indoor head
  • Access, second storey, tight roof space, awkward mounting
  • Multihead systems, which need wiring on site the same as a ducted system
  • Power, if there's no suitable circuit at the location. That's electrical work, done by a licensed electrician rather than us. Budget $400 to $600 for a standard power run.

The $968 is per unit and applies to each head unless we've discussed otherwise.

Where Midea saves you money is the unit price, not the install.

What size Midea do I need?

Same as any brand. It depends on the room, and bigger isn't better.

CapacityTypical room
2.5kWStandard bedroom
3.5kWSlightly larger bedroom
5kWOversized bedroom, small lounge, or a medium living area
7.1kWStandard lounge room, kitchen, or open living

A starting point rather than a specification. Ceiling height, insulation, window area and orientation all move it, and west-facing glass moves it a lot around here.

We size it on site.

Are you an authorised Midea warranty agent?

No. We're an independent business, not an authorised Midea dealer or warranty agent.

We can carry out warranty repairs on select units. Given the 10 year advertised term, this is worth a phone call before you book anything: we'll tell you honestly whether we can handle a warranty job or whether it needs to go through Midea's own channel. Taking the wrong path can cost you the cover.

What if I'd prefer a different brand?

We'll supply and install it.

Daikin, Mitsubishi Electric and Midea are the three in our quoting system because parts move fastest on them. They're a preference, not a restriction. If you've got a brand in mind, tell us and we'll quote it.

We'll also service and repair any brand already installed. Two exceptions: we can't legally work on vehicle air conditioning, and we generally don't repair domestic fridges, because for most of them a replacement costs less than the repair.
