Mitsubishi Electric Air Conditioning in Coffs Harbour

Independent installation, servicing and repairs. ARCtick licensed. NSW Contractor Licence 396989C.

Mitsubishi Electric is one of the two brands we recommend to most customers.

We're independent, so there's nothing behind that recommendation except what the units do in service and how quickly we can get parts when one needs something.

Yes

Do you install Mitsubishi Electric?

Yes, and it's one of two brands we actively recommend, alongside Daikin.

Both are high quality, trusted brands with years of backing, and a lot of installers choose to put them in. That's worth more than it sounds. A brand installers keep choosing is a brand with parts on the shelf and technicians who recognise its fault behaviour.

It's also one of the three brands in our quoting system, and those three are there because we can get parts for them fastest. Actual price and lead time still depend on availability and where the job is.

Mitsubishi Electric or Mitsubishi Heavy Industries?

They're two separate companies, and it catches people out regularly.

Mitsubishi Electric and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries are different manufacturers with different product ranges, different parts and different warranty channels. If you're comparing quotes or chasing a part, check which one you've actually got.

We install and service Mitsubishi Electric. We service and repair Mitsubishi Heavy Industries but don't install it.

Are you an authorised Mitsubishi Electric warranty agent?

No. We're an independent business, not an authorised Mitsubishi Electric warranty agent or dealer.

We can carry out warranty repairs on select units. If your system is in warranty, ring us before booking and we'll tell you honestly whether we can handle it or whether it needs to go through Mitsubishi Electric's own channel. Using the wrong path can cost you the warranty, which is why it's worth the call.

How do you read a Mitsubishi Electric fault code?

You can't, and that's worth knowing before you spend an hour trying.

Mitsubishi Electric signals a fault by flashing on the front of the indoor unit. What it doesn't do is give you a readable code the way a Daikin remote will. Reading the actual fault requires a technician with the right equipment on site.

So if the front of your Mitsubishi Electric is flashing, there's no sequence to try. The flashing is the message: something has been logged and it needs diagnosing.

That's a genuine difference between the two brands. If you've got a Daikin, you can pull the code yourself and it's worth doing, and the method is on our Daikin page.

What goes wrong with Mitsubishi Electric units around here

The same four faults account for most residential call-outs, across every brand:

  • PCB failure. The control board. More common on coastal properties than inland ones.
  • Compressor failure. The expensive one, and where the repair-versus-replace conversation usually starts.
  • Fan motor failure. Outdoor fan motors work hard in this climate.
  • Mould and dust buildup. The system runs but stops cooling the way it used to. Preventable with servicing.

If your system has slowly got worse rather than suddenly stopped, it's more often a cleaning problem than a refrigerant problem. It's not always a refrigerant shortage.

Mitsubishi Electric units on the coast

Salt goes after the electronics before it touches anything you'd notice.

On coastal properties, corrosion turns up on the PCBs and the metal contacts, and that's what causes the failure. The outdoor cabinet can still look serviceable while the board inside is on its way out.

That's not brand specific. It's what salt air does to any outdoor unit within reach of the surf. It does mean a coastal system needs looking at more often, and it's why we push a 6 month service interval close to the beach.

Pricing

What does a Mitsubishi Electric install cost?

Installation starts at $968 per unit for a back to back install, with the unit itself on top.

Back to back means indoor and outdoor sit either side of the same wall, short pipe run, no extra material. It's the most common residential install and the cleanest to price.

What moves it:

  • Longer pipe runs, where the outdoor unit can't sit directly behind the indoor head
  • Access, second storey, tight roof space, awkward mounting
  • Multihead systems, which need wiring on site the same as a ducted system
  • Power, if there's no suitable circuit at the location. That's electrical work, done by a licensed electrician rather than us. Budget $400 to $600 for a standard power run.

The $968 is per unit and applies to each head unless we've discussed otherwise.

Any extra gets explained before it's quoted.

What size Mitsubishi Electric do I need?

It depends on the room, and bigger isn't better. An oversized system short cycles, which costs more to run and dehumidifies poorly.

CapacityTypical room
2.5kWStandard bedroom
3.5kWSlightly larger bedroom
5kWOversized bedroom, small lounge, or a medium living area
7.1kWStandard lounge room, kitchen, or open living

A starting point, not a specification. Ceiling height, insulation, window area, orientation and how open the space is all move it, and west-facing glass moves it a lot around here.

We size it on site rather than off a floor plan.

How long is the Mitsubishi Electric warranty?

Mitsubishi Electric's residential warranty is 5 years, subject to their own terms and conditions.

The warranty comes from the brand, not from us and not from the supplier, so nobody in the chain can extend or shorten it. Read their terms rather than anyone's summary, including ours.

Daikin is also 5 years. Midea advertise 10. All three are subject to their own conditions, and a longer advertised term doesn't automatically mean broader cover.

Do you work on other brands?

Yes. We'll work on any brand available.

Mitsubishi Electric and Daikin are the two we recommend, but that's a preference, not a restriction. If you've already got something else installed, we'll service and repair it. If you've got a brand you'd prefer, we'll supply and install that too.

Two exceptions. We can't legally work on vehicle air conditioning. And we generally don't repair domestic fridges, because for most of them a replacement costs less than the repair.
