Daikin is one of two brands we recommend to most customers, and it's the brand Clayton has installed most over 8 years in the trade.
We're independent, so there's no incentive here. It's the recommendation because of what the units do in the field and how quickly we can get parts when something goes wrong.
Yes
Yes, and it's the brand Clayton has installed most across 8 years in the trade.
Daikin is a high quality, trusted brand with years of backing, and a lot of installers choose to put it in. That matters more than it sounds. A brand that installers keep choosing is a brand with parts on the shelf, technicians who know the fault behaviour, and a service history worth something at resale.
It's also one of the three brands in our quoting system, and those three are there because we can get parts for them fastest. Price and lead time still depend on availability and where the job is.
Straight answer
No. We're an independent business, not an authorised Daikin warranty agent.
We can carry out warranty repairs on select units, and if your system is in warranty we'll tell you honestly whether we can handle it or whether it needs to go back through Daikin's own channel. Getting that wrong costs you the warranty, so it's worth a phone call before booking anything.
If you want an authorised agent, Daikin's website lists them. We'd rather say that than have you find out afterwards.
Daikin puts the fault code behind a hidden sequence on the remote, and you can get to it yourself.
If you have a hand-held remote:
If you have a wall controller, it's simpler. The fault code displays on the controller without you doing anything.
Write it down before you ring anyone. It won't diagnose the system on its own, but it tells us where to start and it can save time on site.
A fault code tells you what the system detected, not always what's wrong. A code pointing at a sensor can mean a failed sensor, a wiring fault, or a board misreading a perfectly good sensor. Proper testing confirms which.
Four faults account for most residential call-outs, across every brand:
That last one is worth stressing. If your Daikin has slowly got worse rather than suddenly stopped, it's more often a cleaning problem than a refrigerant problem. It's not always a refrigerant shortage.
Salt goes after the electronics first.
On coastal properties, corrosion shows up on the PCBs and the metal contacts, and that's what causes the failure. The outdoor cabinet can still look reasonable while the board inside is on its way out.
That's not a Daikin problem specifically. It's what salt air does to any outdoor unit within reach of the surf. It does mean a coastal Daikin needs looking at more often than an inland one, and it's the main reason we push a 6 month service interval near the beach.
Daikin's residential warranty is 5 years, subject to their own terms and conditions.
Two things worth knowing. The warranty comes from the brand, not from us or from the supplier, so nobody in the chain can extend or shorten it. And the terms are Daikin's, so read them rather than taking anyone's summary, including ours.
For comparison, Mitsubishi Electric is also 5 years. Midea advertise 10. All three are subject to their own conditions, and a longer advertised term doesn't automatically mean broader cover.
Pricing
Installation starts at $968 per unit for a back to back install, and the unit itself is on top of that.
Back to back means the indoor and outdoor units sit either side of the same wall, with a short pipe run and no extra material needed. It's the most common residential install and it's the cleanest one to price.
What moves the number from there:
The $968 is per unit and applies to each head unless we've discussed something different.
We'll walk you through any extra before it's quoted. Nobody should find out about a cost after the job's booked.
It depends on the room, and bigger isn't better. An oversized system short cycles, which costs more to run and dehumidifies poorly.
As a rough starting point:
| Capacity | Typical room |
|---|---|
| 2.5kW | Standard bedroom |
| 3.5kW | Slightly larger bedroom |
| 5kW | Oversized bedroom, small lounge, or a medium living area |
| 7.1kW | Standard lounge room, kitchen, or open living |
That's a starting point, not a specification. Ceiling height, insulation, window area, orientation and how open the space is to the rest of the house all move it. West-facing glass in particular moves it a lot around here.
We'll size it properly on site rather than off a floor plan.
Yes. We'll work on any brand available.
Daikin and Mitsubishi Electric are the two we recommend, but recommending isn't the same as refusing everything else. If you've already got something else installed, we'll service and repair it.
If you've got a brand you'd prefer, we'll supply and install that too. These are our preferred three, not a restriction.
Two exceptions, both worth knowing before you call. We can't legally work on vehicle air conditioning. And we generally don't repair domestic fridges, because for most of them a new one costs less than the repair.
